Mailing

Successful mailing campaigns do these 3 things right.

The Piece

Selecting the right mail piece is critical for executing a successful direct mailing campaign. The type of mail piece largely determines processing and postage. Understanding the difference between Postcards, Letters,  and Flats will facilitate your mailing campaign. Our selection of postcards fit perfectly into USPS mailing criteria making it easy for you to get the right piece printed. If you would like some pointers on preparing your mail piece, one of our trained professionals would be pleased to offer some advice. Contact our mailing gurus directly.

The Layout

The layout we're concerned with is the side of your piece that will be addressed and postmarked. Although you have a lot of room to work with it is critical that you understand where your boundaries are. The United States Postal Service has specific outlines of where they will be looking for the address and postmark and where they will be putting a bar code. If your layout prints within these boundaries the mailing will be potentially non-mailable. Check the mailing guideline template and feel free to request one of your own from your local USPS. The Piece

The mailing piece is the physical makeup of your mailing campaign and must be categorized as a Postcard, Letter, or Flat to mail with the United States Postal Service

The first thing you need to determine when planning a mailing campaign is the type of mail piece you want to send out. The type of piece you use is primarily determined by the size of the mail piece. The United States Postal Service categorizes mail pieces into types: Postcards, Letters, and Flats. It is important that you select the right type of mail piece from the beginning as postage is determine based on mailing type. For more information regarding mailing you can click here to visit the USPS customer guide to mailing. In order to determine which mailing type a piece is, review the Shape-Based Pricing Template below or download it here. You can also download a breakdown of the specific size requirements for each mailing type here. Although the criteria identifies minimum and maximum measurements, it is best to solidify the exact size of your piece while establishing the type so the Design stage can be accomplished effectively.

The Layout

The mailer layout is the graphic design on the side that will be addressed and postmarked and must be set up according to United States Postal Service regulations.

In order to understand how your layout or mail piece needs to be set up, review the USPS Mailing Template below or download the USPS Mailing Template here and check your design against it. Set the template in your design on it's own layer under all other layers as you are designing. This will allow you to make sure you are leaving sufficient space for the USPS to read the address and postmark correctly and print a bar code. Once your design is finished, put the template layer on top of your design and set to 35% transparency to confirm you are within the boundaries. When you are sure your mailer's layout is correct, hide or delete the template layer, save and export your file, then order your product on our Buy Printing Now page to get your mailing campaign started. The List

The mailing list is comprised of who and where you will be mailing your mail-pieces to.

Your mailing list is quite possibly the most important part of your mailing campaign. If you have selected the right mail piece and created a perfect layout, but fail to select the best target audience to send to, your mailing will fail despite all the hard work you've put in. Making sure your mail gets in the right hands is critical. Preparing a mailing list can be a daunting task, especially if you have never done it before, but our mailing experts know exactly how to zero in on the target market you are looking for. There are various solutions which can produce varied results. Our tried and true method starts by discussing with you what you are trying to accomplish with your mailing campaign. Once we have a good understanding of your goals we can move into the research phase and create a list that will effectively put your mail piece in the right hands. If the initial list isn't exactly what you're looking for we can modify the list by zip code, areas on a map, or any demographic you desire to hone in on. If you want to get started with your own mailing list check out the Example Mailing List below or feel free to download the Example Mail List here.
